How to bet less than $1 at Betfair

Betfair has a minimum stake of $1, but there is a workaround that lets you place smaller amounts.

The approach works by placing a $1 bet at reduced odds, then editing the stake to include your actual desired amount, and finally cancelling the $1 portion.

Here is how it works using an example of wanting to lay $0.38 at odds of 42:

  1. Click the lay odds for your selection. Enter a stake of $1, but manually reduce the odds in the bet slip to something low, such as 2.00.
  2. Submit the bet. It will be placed but unmatched.
  3. Edit the bet and increase the stake to $1.38 (your $1 placeholder plus the $0.38 you actually want to lay).
  4. Submit the edit. You will now have two separate open bets, both at odds of 2.00. One will show a $1 stake and the other a $0.38 stake.
  5. Cancel the $1 bet.
  6. Edit the odds on the remaining $0.38 bet back to 42. It will now be matched at your intended amount.

For back bets

The same process applies, but instead of reducing the odds you increase the stake to a large number such as 1000. This ensures the bet stays unmatched while you complete the steps.
